Developing coaches to ensure excellence and equity

Every leader is a coach, and every coach is a leader. Coaching means supporting people in your organization to become more effective. Coach Development Services provide professional coaches and anyone who advises educators or other staff with the essential knowledge and skills in adult learning and facilitation that our coaches have employed with hundreds of principals, teachers, and other leaders to foster new practices in challenging contexts.

Learning theory suggests that people learn best when provided with opportunities to discuss and reflect with others, to practice application of new ideas and receive feedback, and to observe modeling.  Studies suggest that the transfer of ideas from the traditional professional development model of one-time workshops into changes in actual practice is extremely limited.  In our work with partners, we use our coaching methodology, make it explicit, model it, and guide partners in adopting it.

Our Coach Development Services center around retreat-style institutes, including our annual Coaching for Equity Institute. Participants examine their coaching and facilitation styles with a focus on educational equity, while practicing specific skills with each other.  We provide customized consulting and coaching to project leaders and teams as well as a range of services designed to help organizations start or improve coaching programs.
