  • "What was most critical in the support we got from the National Equity Project was the big vision. It was more than ‘every child can learn,’ it was doing school differently. It was thinking outside the box to create a transformative school, to build a school community and culture, to attract and develop great people, to get all the pieces to work together in our unique context. ”

Community Equity Initiative Support

Change the Conversation and Collaborate to Transform Communities.

Community-wide initiatives hold the promise of transforming schools and communities by changing the way educators, agencies, and families work together on behalf of their children.  But truly changing the status quo and fostering new ways of working together among many different players to make lasting systemic change is very challenging.

We provide technical support in planning and implementation community-wide intiatives such as Promise Neighborhood initiatives, and coaching in the vision and strategies for developing trusting, productive, and sustainable relationships between school, family, and agency leaders.

Our approach centers on building leadership capacity and providing tools and processes for tending to both the technical and the relational (social, cultural) aspects of complex communities and change efforts.

Key focuses include:

  • Planning with a systems lens
  • Adaptive systems and adaptive leadership
  • The challenge of structural racism
  • Racial Equity planning tools
  • Aligning contributions within community change efforts
  • Building effective relationships across role and identity
  • Moving from equity aspirations to effective action

Past and current partners include:

  • Oakland’s Promise
  • Ready Schools Miami
  • Thrive by Five Washington
  • The W.K. Kellogg Foundation
