I am a special education teacher nearing the end of my 22nd year in the classroom. I am flexible, firm, positive and provide a welcoming environment for my students. I’m also a parent to an autistic child which makes me more sympathetic the needs of families I work with. What I care most about now is the lack of inclusion in our classroom and communities. I continue to work in classroom with black and brown children with special needs because often in inner city classrooms, these students get the least qualified staff. I’ve seen incredible outcomes for kiddos when they are properly supposed. In my down town, I enjoy creating social opportunities throughout the local community for autistic individuals.
