Rebel Leader Collective
Making good trouble, together.
"Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble."
U.S. Representative John Lewis
We are living in a moment where our core values of justice, belonging, and truth-telling are being explicitly challenged across education systems in the United States. In this moment, we need rebel leaders who are committed to collective liberation and to creating communities of belonging that honor our linked fates, where everyone can thrive.
In order to live into that commitment and change our systems, we need to deepen our capacity to lead collectively. We cannot go it alone, we need each other to influence the kind of change we’re after. This requires different ways of engaging and leading that transform power, harness collective creativity, and center the expertise of those who are most impacted by inequity.
Rebel Leadership Collective: Making Good Trouble, Together
Building on the success of our Leading for Equity Fellowship program’s 5 cohorts, and our 2022-23 pilot of this team-based fellowship, we are pleased to launch our second cohort of our team-based leadership development program, the Rebel Leader Collective. This fellowship is for teams of leaders in education who have expressed a commitment to equity, belonging, and collective liberation in their communities.
The National Equity Project is an equity-focused organization committed to developing and connecting equity leaders across geographies, sectors, and contexts. We join others in a call to action for leaders and organizations to invest in the skill and capacity of their people to lead for real change by tapping into collective intelligence, creativity, and courage; to co-design new possibilities towards greater equity, justice and love through the practice of rebel leadership. Cohort size is limited; we will prioritize teams with a previous connection to NEP through our Center for Equity Leadership or a coaching partnership, but others may apply.
The Rebel Leader Collective is a 9-month fellowship program that is an opportunity to:
Co-create a learning community and sanctuary space focused on inside-out rebel equity leadership;
Deepen capacity for collective leadership by practicing host leadership stances and ways of being, reflected in NEP’s Leading for Equity Framework;
Influence your systems towards more equitable experiences and outcomes through a collectivist and complexity-informed leadership practice.
The Rebel Leader Collective is for:
Leaders who wish to engage in personal, inside-out reflection on identity, experience, beliefs, values and practices as equity leaders, who wish to practice inquiry-based and collectivist ways of leading, and who wish to learn by doing alongside others;
Teams of people from a shared context (e.g. an organization, formal partnership, coalition, or network).
“Systems do not maintain themselves; even our lack of intervention is an act of maintenance. Every structure in every society is upheld by the active or passive assistance of other human beings.”
