Victor Cary

After 24 years of service, Victor Cary retired from the National Equity Project in 2024. During his tenure as director, he led the development of several transformative equity-centered frameworks, including Leading for Equity, Coaching for Equity, Coaching in Complexity, and Liberatory Design. As Advisor Emeritus, he continues to provide strategic counsel to NEP's leadership while contributing thought leadership to the education field, particularly in complexity-informed equity leadership.

Victor's 40-year career in education began as a high school teacher in Richmond, California. Before joining BayCES (which later became NEP), he served as Director of the California Alliance for Mathematics and Science (CAMS) Initiative, where he worked to align secondary and post-secondary mathematics education statewide. He also directed Regional Center and School Support at the Coalition for Essential Schools' national office. Victor holds a B.A. and Secondary Teaching Credential from UC Berkeley and an M.A. in Education from Stanford University.
